Associate professor of sociology in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies at Arizona State University. She began her higher education at Imperial Valley Community College, transferring to the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts in sociology. She earned a doctorate in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and joined the faculty in American Studies at Arizona State University.
